Met a small group of Jehovah's Witnesses today
A couple of Jehovah's Witnesses came to my door today. At
first my reaction was that I was not interested and I let them know
that as I was closing the door. However, after I closed the door it dawned on me to question them
regarding the United Nations issue. And so I ran after them and
started to question them regarding the issue. The Confrontation
Two of them knew absolutely nothing about it. The third one
said "Oh, yes, I know all about it—it was a big controversy!"I proceeded to show her the documents regarding the issue
including Paul Hoffels letter and some letters from the Society. Her reaction? "Oh, those are from the internet? she asked."
"Yes, they are I answered." She proceeded to say," In order to
get anything accurate it has to come from Watchtower.org"In other words, everything from the internet is discounted or
discredited based on the fact that it did not come out of the
Watchtower Society.The Conclusion
She also claimed that they had all of the "documents and
paperwork" regarding the United Nations issue in the King-
dom hall. I invited the group to come back with such
documentation to prove their case.Does anybody know if the Watchtower has documentation
in the Kingdom Hall proving their innocence regarding the
United Nations issue?Respectfully,

purpose
by coolhandluke inagent smith said:there is no escaping reason; no denying purpose.
because as we both know, without purpose, we would not exist.
it is purpose that created us.
-
The wanderer
Dear Coolhand:
To a certain degree purpose is necessary in life. To
be a floater in life drifting aimlessly without a
purpose can be rather unfulfilling.
Find a particular drive, ambition, love, educational
goal, or hobby to fill that void you presently feel.
Life is too short and too good to just drift aimlessly
through it without fulfilling something positive and
worth-while.

The Code of Silence—and the Watchtower Society
In his book Crisis of Conscience, Ray Franz gives the public an in-
siders view and perspective of the governing body and the Watch-
tower Society. It gives the reader the distinct impression that the
governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses knows exactly
what they are doing. What about the "underlings" in the Watchtower Society
Often times, I thought to myself, what about individuals who were not
considered one of the "higher" ups in the Watchtower Society. True,
Ray shows in his book that the Bethelites would describe marking
off time in Bethel like if it were prison time; one and four, three
and one, so on and so forth, but do they know more than
what they are telling?Your thoughts on the matter
Did you ever know of anyone who knew exactly what was going
on inside the Watchtower; be it the Society in Brooklyn or Watch-
Tower farms?Did you see, hear, or experience anything in your life as a Witness
to give you the impression that there was a cover up on a much
grander scale?
If you know of anything can you please share
your viewpoints with the board so that we can
compare notes.

Should I just say no?
by hambeak inmy partners brother is being released from state prison on 12/7 and jake has to go to huntsville to pick him up.
i am cooking a big thanksgiving dinner and his mom wants me to duplicate it when the a**hole gets home and cook a big dinner for x-mas too.
i get 1 day off a week and i am starting to resent being the fricking maid.
-
The wanderer
Dear Hambeak:
Before you "just say no" make sure you make your
case in a tactful and diplomatic manner. Remember,
this is your business partner's brother. And,
although you may not take to him, your partner
may have a different view of him.
Just state your "concerns" regarding his track
record and the reasons why he may be better off
some where else.

Your Dynamic Personality—how do others see it?
In life you encounter hundreds, thousands, and even tens of
thousands of unique individuals and personalities. One thing
that stands clear—there are no two personalities that are
exactly alike. How do other persons see you?
The common factor that binds us together in a sense is
our communication on this discussion board. However,
just like being in the Kingdom Hall, it only offers one
perspective regarding your personality. If an individual asked people who knew you, how
do you think they would describe you?How do you see yourself?
Do you see yourself as an angry, bitter, or
happy individual? Is there another side of
you that individuals on this discussion
board do not readily see?The benefits in answering
By answering these questions you may meet
and contact someone on this board that
feels as you do.In addition, it can provide a valuable learning
experience for you and others, to get to know
you better. Please post your responses for the benefit
of yourself and for others.Respectfully,
The Wanderer
P.S. I have been described by others to
be a helpful, considerate and positive
person.

The Judeo-Christian premise for our destroying the earth?
by daystar in"far from having made 'all objects sacred' christianity, in the wake of the bible, has emptied the world of every sacred dimension.
the biblical and christian idea of a divine transcendence manifested in the creative act of god, the very idea of god the creator, disenchants the whole world, and the world remains only an object created by the voluntary will of the lord.
from such a perspective, the world is only a 'sign' of a presence, the 'other.
-
The wanderer
Dear Daystar:
After reading your posted thread certain thoughts
came across my mind and of course you did mention
that you wanted thoughts so here goes.
"God creates man in his image and then directs him to subdue the earth. And we certainly have done so. ..."
"But at its core, you still have that instruction from God to bring the earth and the animals into submission rather than partnering with our home and our fellow earthlings."
Thoughts?
One dictionary definition of the
word subdue is defined as:
To bring land under cultivation.
-Webster's New World Dictionary, 1982
So your above statement could be left open to interpretation.
I am certainly no defender of "Christianty" however, I think
when the Bible was written there was a good motivation or
principles behind it.
Sad to say, I think men have corrupted it. And, regarding
religion, there is no doubt in my mind that they have.

This is so huge.
by La Capra inwhen i was four, i believed that my life could be painfully and tortuously taken from me, in a ball of flame, crashing down from the heavens, just while i sitting down to a bowl of oatmeal in the morning.. when i was nine, i believed that my life, as i then knew it, would be drastically altered, that i would be tortured for being a jw, and after suffering for who knows how long, i would die (because i still hadn't lived up to jehovah's expectations).. when i was 13, i wanted to be a nuclear physicist-because it sounded cool, but in the meantime i believed that i would die in armageddon because i wanted to go to college, get really educated, and have a great, "worldly" life.. when i was 15, i felt guilty that i hoped armageddon would never come, because i so desperately wanted to go to college.. when i was 17, i was offered an honors early admissions in a prestigious program in a highly regarded engineering program.
my mother flat out said, "no!".
when i was 18, i scuttled semi-secretly to the local university, part-time, trying to hide my daily activities without actually lying to anyone.. when i was 19 i quit pretending and disassociated.
